The Roman amphitheater
The RomanAmphitheater of the ancient Roman city of Casinum, today’s Cassino, was built at the behest of the Roman matron Ummidia Quadratilla in the first century AD, along with a temple of which no trace remains.
In Roman times, theAmphitheater was used for epic fights between gladiators and ferocious beasts. Given the presence of large water sources in the area, it is assumed that the amphitheater was also used for naval battles.

The Casinum Archaeological Area Museum, located within the ancient urban area, includes inscriptions and architectural fragments, visible in the so-called Lapidarium.
Also not to be missed, in the garden in front of the museum, are the Tomb of Ummidia Quadratilla, the Roman matron who had the amphitheater built, two funerary epigraphs and two augustal sevires, from the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, which represent the only evidence of existence in the municipality of Cassino.
