The cemeteries of Cassino

Numerous war cemeteries can be visited near Kairos Resort, particularly in and around Cassino, where the Gustav Line, the centerpiece of German resistance against the Allied advance, passed. In fact, this area is home to the Polish cemetery, the German c emetery, and the Commonwealth cemetery, all war cemeteries commemorating a War that left terrible aftermaths for all.

Polish and German cemeteries

The Polish cemetery is located north ofMonte Cassino Abbey and houses 1,052 bodies of the 11th Polish Army Corps, marked by a hemicycle of crosses. In Colle Marino, in the hamlet of Caira, it is instead possible to visit the German cemetery, which houses as many as 20,035 bodies of German soldiers from World War II. The Cemetery is very distinctive in that it is a monument created in symbiosis with nature, as if to find a reconciliation between humans in the universality of nature.

Commonwealth cemetery

This incredible cemetery is located just outside Cassino and holds 4,255 bodies of soldiers from all the countries of the British Commonwealth who fought for the cause of the Great War. It features very elegant and manicured gardens, as well as refined architecture, but at the same time essential lines. It really allows one to feel the peace that reigns among the souls of these soldiers!
