St. Benedict of Norcia

St. Benedict of Norcia is the founder of theBenedictine Order. On the mountaintop of Cassino, St. Benedict and his most devoted disciples built the first Abbey of Monte Cassino in 529 A.D. amid the ruins of an ancient pagan acropolis. Here he later wrote the famous Rule “Ora et Labora,” a humane and wise synthesis of the Gospel, in which the life of the monks is organized down to the smallest details. He was the first abbot of the monastery until his death around the mid-6th century.
