A Roman colony during the time of Marc Antony, Octavian and Lepidus, the ancient city of Aquinum lies in the center of the Liri Valley at the foot of Mount Cairo and has conspicuous remains of the ancient grandeur of the Romans of that time. The Aquinum area consists of two areas that originated from the Capo d’Acqua d’Aquino spring. The first area consists of 129 hectares of land and includes the monumental remains of the late republican and imperial city of Aquinas, spread over a large travertine slab. The second zone, on the other hand, of 3 hectares, was established to protect the spring wetland. This is a unique area that is certainly worth a visit!
